Dear members of the San Francisco Go Club,
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for our club! As you may know, the San Francisco Go Club has applied for Legacy Business status, and our application has been accepted by the Planning Department. We are now scheduled to present our case to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023. This is a momentous occasion for our club as it recognizes our longstanding presence and contributions to the vibrant culture of San Francisco.
What is Legacy Business Status?
The Legacy Business Program is an initiative by the City of San Francisco to acknowledge and preserve longstanding businesses that have significantly contributed to the history and identity of the city's neighborhoods and communities. Businesses with 30 or more years of operation in San Francisco, or those that have operated for more than 20 years and have made significant neighborhood contributions, are eligible for Legacy Business status. Such designation brings various benefits and assistance to help these valuable cultural assets continue thriving.
The Historic Preservation Commission Hearing
The HPC hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16th, starting at 12:30 pm, at San Francisco City Hall in Room 400. As members of the San Francisco Go Club, we cordially invite you to attend this hearing and support our application. Your presence and participation will showcase the significance of our club in the community and bolster our chances of securing Legacy Business status.
If you are unable to attend the hearing in person, you can still participate remotely. The hearing will be available for live viewing online with a slight delay. If you wish to provide public comment during the hearing, you can call in remotely using the provided number and access code. All the necessary information for remote participation will be available on the Planning Department website: https://sfplanning.org/event/historic-preservation-commission-98.
How You Can Help
Your presence at the hearing, whether in person or remotely, will make a significant difference in our application process. During the HPC hearing, our assigned planners will deliver a brief presentation on the San Francisco Go Club's historical significance and contributions to the community. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity for you to speak on behalf of the club during Public Comment, where each speaker is allotted up to three minutes. We encourage you to express what the San Francisco Go Club means to you personally and how it has played a role in shaping the cultural fabric of the city.
Upcoming Small Business Commission Hearing
Following the HPC hearing, the final step in the application process is the Small Business Commission (SBC) hearing, scheduled for Monday, August 28th, at 4:30 pm. The SBC will make the final determination on whether the San Francisco Go Club will be listed on the Legacy Business Registry. We encourage you to save the date and plan to attend this crucial meeting as well.
Preserving our Legacy Business status is not only a recognition of our rich history but also an assurance that the San Francisco Go Club will continue to be an essential cultural asset in the city. Your participation in the HPC and SBC hearings will play a crucial role in our application's success.
Let us unite as a community and demonstrate the profound impact the San Francisco Go Club has had over the years. Together, we can secure our rightful place in the Legacy Business Registry and ensure that our club thrives for many years to come.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you at the Historic Preservation Commission hearing!
Best regards,
San Francisco Go Club
